The Process

 

HFMA Certification Exam Process

 

Test Preparation:

¨      Discuss with Proctor, select date

¨      Complete application (available on line), include:     

1.      Sections to be taken and payment

2.      Proctor name

3.      Date-suggest that the date and time is during business hours when National IT support is available

¨      Proctor Preparation

1.      Must be certified

2.      Will receive a handbook and guide sheet from National

3.      Will receive a password and the internet browser on CD

4.      Arrange for a quiet place where there will not be interruptions and distractions

5.      Arrange for IT to install and test access.  Access will only be available the date designated for the test.  You will need to test access through the HFMA TEST function, using the Proctor password.  Also assure that the internet access will not automatically terminate during the test.

Taking the Exam

¨      Both Proctor and candidate must be present and enter their passwords

¨      Start time should be agreed to by Proctor and Candidate(s)

¨      What to Bring:

1.      Password

2.      Calculator

3.      Note pads

4.      Refreshments-drink, light snack

¨       Candidates access will be limited to those sections they registered for

¨       Candidate must complete each section before moving to the next-you will not be able to return to a previous section

¨       The test score will be provided immediately after completion of the exam

 

Test Successful

¨       Candidate must complete the application for certification upon passing the exam.

¨       National will send a reminder to Certified members when their Re-Certification is due.  You will need to verify the information, sign and return the application.

¨       If you failed to return the Re-Certification form within the required time, you can be reinstated for up to 3 years provided you have met the requirements.

 

Test Unsuccessfully

¨       You may request a detail of your results from National.

¨      You must wait 90 days to re-test.

¨      If you test unsuccessfully during the last 3 months of the calendar year, prior to revised study guide publication, you may re-test based on the same study guides.

 

Study Guides are revised biannually. Generally about 30-40% of the material changes in the new issues.
